This February, some of our team headed down under to attend Supercomputing Asia and Quantum Australia, in Sydney! Celebrating the vibrant HPC ecosystem in Asia, SCA 2024 was co-organised by leading supercomputing centres of the region including those in Australia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Aotearoa New Zealand, and anchored by the National Computational Infrastructure in Australia. The event set out to promote a vibrant and shared high-performance computing and Artificial Intelligence ecosystem, for both the public and private sectors. Similarly, Quantum Australia, Australia’s foremost quantum industry event presented by Sydney Quantum Academy explored the theme ‘Accelerating Impact: From Research to Commercialisation, and Developing Quantum Technology Markets’. Quantum experts from around the globe attended both events, exhibiting solutions and research, and attending the thought-provoking presentations on the latest developments and innovative collaborations in the deep tech industry.
Showcasing OQC quantum solutions at SCA24
To kick start Supercomputing Asia 2024, our Compiler Team Manager, Jamie Friel, contributed to NVIDIA morning workshop ‘Programming Model and Applications for the Grace Hopper Superchip’. Jamie outlined OQC’s key objective to provide customers with secure and easy access to powerful hybrid quantum compute and latest hybrid offering, powered by NVIDIA technologies. Our quantum expert also discussed the learnings, challenges, and practical steps towards building a unified quantum and classical compute solution, in the context of data centres.
This workshop had a fantastic amount of engagement from the students, researchers, HPC professionals from academia, international delegates, public sector representatives, and industry experts from around the world that attended. It was extraordinary to see high levels of interest and enthusiasm from the audience with plenty of thought-provoking questions asked at the end of the talk.
Jamie ended the week with an additional talk on the industry track exploring how OQC are pioneering the enterprise-ready transformation and how multiple access applications will unlock quantum capabilities. After launching the world’s first enterprise-ready quantum computer in 2023, the talk demonstrated how enabling quantum via multiple access options including the cloud, and direct access through data centres is making quantum computing more accessible for businesses and researchers while accelerating the pace at which they can build capabilities and experiment. The talks generated plenty of curiosity around enterprise-ready quantum computing and it was a pleasure to have so many attendees visiting the booth afterwards to find out more.
Networking and insights at Quantum Australia
Alongside the 300+ organisations attending Quantum Australia, we joined prominent quantum experts from across the globe as they held panels and presentations on the industry’s latest developments and showcased interesting new collaborations. It was fascinating to see alternative perspectives on quantum research, the latest in quantum science and technology, and emerging applications, as well as understand better the Australian quantum ecosystem and industry.
A quantum future
The team had an action-packed week in Sydney exhibiting at and attending Supercomputing Asia and Quantum Australia and exploring the incredible research and efforts being placed in quantum computing across Australia and Asia. The conferences solidified the growing capability and understanding of quantum computing as we grow closer to a brighter future for all, enabled by quantum.
