The history of OQC
2017
OQC is founded by Dr Peter Leek.
JUNE 2017
OQC’s first patent is issued – the Coaxmon.
A quantum bit (qubit) developed from first principles with commercial scalability in mind and liberated from the constraints of 2D technology.
2017
OQC raises 2M in seed funding.
2018
Dr Ilana Wisby, appointed as OQC's founding CEO.
2018
Launched the UK’s most advanced superconducting quantum computer:

Getting our first UK lab ready
OQC’s CEO, Ilana Wisby, and CTO, Simon Phillips visit the OQC lab for a final inspection before launch.
JANUARY 2021
Our state of the art lab opens
OQC’s quantum Lab, where qubits are developed, measured and operated, is a state-of-the-art facility, with cryogenic equipment that can create temperatures much colder than space, and bespoke control hardware generating low-latency qubit pulses.
APRIL 2021
OQC launches Europe’s first Quantum Computing-as-a-Service (QCaaS) platform.
OQC opened a beta list to sector-leading enterprise customers looking to take advantage of the technical and commercial benefits of quantum computing.
MAY 2021
OQC Lucy launches
OQC’s Lucy is an 8-qubit quantum processor launched in December 2021.
APRIL 2022
Closed largest series A fundraise for a UK quantum computing firm
OQC raised £38 million (US $47 million) the UK’s largest ever investment at Series A in quantum computing company.

OQC installing computer in Equinix IBX® data centre
OQC are installing a quantum computer in Equinix’s commercial data centres in Japan.
